Leather, Linen, Liberty Bars & A Lecture! Well it's not a lecture really(!), rather a little talk that I am giving on June 7th at the store about the history and wonders of Eau de Cologne. They looked like characters from a movie about healthy outdoor living and they were all wearing the cognac apron which is a most handsome thing. On closer examination I realised that they had achieved the Holy Grail of design and created something that is the very best of its kind. Considered, quality, timeless and practical this is a 'once in a lifetime' purchase as the apron will get even better with age and become as comfortable as an old friend. It is, in my opinion, the finest apron in the world and will work as well for the barbecue enthusiast, the casual Sunday roaster and the Cordon Bleu Chef. At £139.95 this is an investment piece however I have yearned for one for six months and then noted this week that the wonderful Dick Strawbridge from TV's 'Escape To The Chateau' was wearing same while concocting yet another of his 5 course extravaganzas. Dick is the kind of man that makes the rest of us feel completely inadequate - engineer, gardener, chef and DIY'er, there is nothing he cannot turn his hand to and he makes me want to try harder. So, if this apron is good enough for Mr S, I shall be donning mine at every opportunity and hoping to at least look the part! You can tuck your tea-towel into the leather strap created specifically for the purpose, which is handy, and the leather is treated with wax for easy cleaning and to stop fat etc from penetrating the leather. It's a lovely thing and the last word in barbecue-chic this season!! Huge News! Our summer linens have arrived and they are utterly stunning - tablecloths in soft lilac and a gloriously summery cornflower print on a natural background are my favourites - plus napkins, tea towels and soft, pretty aprons in the loveliest of summer hues including mustard, brick and royal blue.
