Thailand's First Luxury Fragrance House, A Recommendation From The Princess Palatine & Our Summer Sale

Thailand's First Luxury Fragrance House,
A Recommendation From The Princess Palatine & Our Summer Sale!
Every once in a while I discover a new Fragrance House that reminds me why perfume has been my passion for over twenty years.
I discovered PRYN PARFUM from Bangkok at The Art & Olfaction Awards this summer.
This is the very first perfume house from Thailand and the vision of the very first Thai Perfumer to enter the international fragrance arena, Mr Pryn Lomros.
I have found that I am particularly drawn to perfumers that come from another arts medium. I believe that they approach fragrance in new and innovative ways and Pryn actually studied film direction before a visit to the Cannes Film Festival ignited his passion for scent! A stint in Grasse to learn scent-structure fanned the flames and as soon as he returned to Bangkok he apprenticed in a perfume company abandoning the 7th art-form for the 8th!
He launched PRYN PARFUM in his native Thailand, drawing his creative themes from ancient and modern cultural history and realising his fragrances, appropriately, via the visual world " I imagine a moving image first, sort of a movie. There are colours, there is sound and texture and I interpret each component by notes and accords.
PRYN PARFUM opens an olfactory window onto Eastern Culture with subtly nuanced storytelling and spirituality, combining them with rare ingredients of extraordinary beauty. This collection adds a unique facet to the rich world of luxury fragrance and heralds the dawn of Perfume Rising In The East!

The Collection

MOGAO
This citrus/incense scent is named after the caves of Buddha in the Kobe desert that house Buddhist art dating back a thousand years. 'Mogao' celebrates this spiritual oasis of ancient China where the caravans of the silk road met the temples of the faithful. Sweet orange and osmanthus blend with Sichuan spices and Chinese tea leaves over a serene base of incense, wood and leather.

AYOTHAYA
Siam's Kingdom of Ayuttahaya existed from 1350-1767 and was a global centre of commerce and cultural sophistication. It attracted traders from all over the world: Arabia, China, Japan, India, Portugal and France and was described as the wealthiest city in the East. It also became the center of Buddhism with vast numbers of grand temples. The scent is inspired by this golden age, reinterpreted with sacred incense, spices, gunpowder and Oolong tea conjuring the sophistication, excitement and magnificence of this ancient hub.

HIKARI
This is a story of Tokyo. Hikari - 'light' in Japanese - juxtaposes ancient and modern Japanese culture using natural elements of historic Japan including the nashi pear, dried yellow chrysanthemum, blackcurrant leaf, sake and osmanthus absolute and layering in more modern perfume materials like norlimbanol, javanol and ambroxan representing technology and avant-garde fashion. There is even a nod to the after-work drinking culture with hops flower absolute!

MORAH
Inspired by Thai folklore 'Chantakorob', whose main, female antagonist, Morah, is notoriously remembered as a most 'promiscuous, unchaste' woman! Exotic and arousing this fragrance uses native thai flowers like cannonball flower and manorangini, wild spices and the intoxicating notes of golden champacca and opium to hypnotise!

LE MIMOSA
This is the most elegant green-fruit scent with apple blossom, green quince and yellow pear providing the fresh, aqueous notes that compliment the ephemeral beauty of mimosa. The leading lady is supported by wild yellow pansy, lily of the valley and violet with a dash of timeless yellow narcissus, fresh cut grass and a passing cloud of creamed vanilla.

TURKISH LEATHER
This delicious, spiced-leather is a truly remarkable achievement and celebrates Turkey as the 'gateway' to The East. Raki, a traditional Turkish drink of anise and other spices is blended with Loukoum or rosewater which uses almond powder and has been called the queen of Turkish dessert. Caramelised dates and cocao powder add a subtle hint of the gourmand however it is the leather and suede notes combined with incense and oud that really lift this scent to another spiritual plane.
The PRYN PARFUM Collection is exclusive to Roullier White In Europe. Prices are between £115 and £139 depending on the fragrance. All fragrances are EDP

I was watching the sumptuous 'VERSAILLES' on BBC2 this Monday evening and once again got so distracted by the sets that I had to watch it twice to keep up with the plot - I do love a girandole!

The wife of the King's brother - the rather colourful Prince Philippe I, Duc d'Orleans - was the wonderfully charismatic Lisalotte, The Princess Palatine, played with such panache by Jessica Clark. The Princess was an inveterate letter writer and much of her correspondence still survives, unveiling gossip and intrigue from the court of the Sun King! In several of this indiscreet missives Lisalotte raves to her German relatives about a medicinal balm called 'Pommade Divine'.
For those unfamiliar with this miraculous unguent, it indeed dates all the way back to the French Court of 1700 and has been my unfailing travel companion for several years. A combination of benzoin, nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon with shea butter and jojoba, it is a multi-tasker like no other and I would never go on holiday without it. Put it on blistered feet and the pain stops, on insect bites and they cease to itch, it will sooth sunburn, moisturise and nourish lips dried by sunshine and salty water and is marvellous on rough heels. A natural antiseptic, Pommade Divine is also the perfect first aid kit so you will understand why this light-weight tube is always in my luggage to treat cuts and grazes, bruises, rashes and all those other skin irritations that often accompany travel.
100% natural is can be also used on babies and even the family dog - excellent if they cut a paw as the cloves make it bitter and they don't lick it off! It has saved the day on innumerable occasions and I have the Princess to thank for her recommendation, although in one of the letters she sits on her watch and cuts her bottom to which Pommade Divine is applied with complete success  -
this is over-sharing in my opinion!!

Enjoy the sunshine and /or football !
