My Fragrance Collection Lands At Roullier White & Autumn Is Upon Us!
It is a time of rejoicing at Roullier White this week as my very own fragrance collection, 'St Giles '( named for the ancient Parish in Camberwell where I was born), has finally arrived!!!

I spent over 3 years working with one of the world's greatest perfumers -  Bertrand Duchaufour - to produce a collection of five fragrances created to convey a specific feeling to the wearer. I am incredibly proud of them and the feedback has been amazing. I wear 'The Tycoon' all the time,  a scent intended to boost confidence, with a zesty grapefruit opening and a warm spiced, green cypriol heart. I recently got into a taxi at 2 am (after a night of frenetic dancing in scorching temperatures) only to be asked by the driver if I could write down the name of my fragrance for him. This is the biggest compliment that I could ever be paid as cabbies are subjected to the best and the very worst fragrances on an hourly basis! The thing that makes me happiest about this scent is that it knows no age or gender and I know men in their twenties and women in their seventies that love it. Come to think of it they are all very stylish people so perhaps that is the connection!

'The Writer' was nominated for 'Perfume of the Year' by Vogue Magazine ( I was beaten by Jo Malone - I'm not bitter!) and contains a big hit of rosemary at the top which increases one's memory recall by an average of 19% and I wear this to work as it seems to stop me wandering into a room and forgetting why I went there! It is nuanced and sophisticated with a great frankincense note at the heart and an inky scent that we got from castoreum( beaver bottom)
at the base.

A very beautiful woman arrived this morning looking for a scent for her wedding which is in two weeks. Brides often make the mistake of trying to match their fragrance to their flowers or even worse, centrepieces, which nobody can smell as the venue and the congregation will mask them. I explained that a wedding has a strong theatrical element with the bride as the leading lady and thus a wedding perfume must be outstanding. We tried a couple of great tuberose scents and a really modern rose by two of my favourite perfume houses however when she sampled 'The Actress' which I created for women when they wish to make an entrance, her eyes lit up as she had found the one! The thought that I have made something that will be a part of such a special moment in someone's life and therefore a scent memory that will endure forever is a fantastic feeling and I had to control an involuntary lip quiver!!

My fragrances are strong and I make no apology for this because in the frantic world in which we live I only want to spritz once a day. They are also formulated so that the wearer can smell themselves throughout the dry-down. I wear perfume for myself and there is nothing better that to get constant, gentle wafts of gorgeous scent emanating from oneself all day or waking in the morning and wondering what the delicious smell is only to realise that 'it is me' !

As ever, we offer a sample service of small phials if anyone would like to try them and do let me know what you think!

September 1st is officially Autumn in Meteorological terms. Where does the time go? Fortunately this w/e we bask in 25 degrees and so the shock is postponed for a little while. One must view life as an adventure and therefore embrace change as a good thing (easy to say, hard to do!) and the Autumn months can be spectacularly beautiful. The shift in season has reminded me that it is time to spray 'Leg-It' around my window frames and skirting boards as this is the month that spiders like to come indoors. I have no fear of spiders however the giant ones are a bit intimidating and hard to catch so I prefer to err on the side of caution.'Mrs White's Leg It' is full of chestnut oil and they don't like to cross this so move on to alternative accommodation which suits us both. I am also purchasing our 'September In Sicily' candle which is packed full of Sicilian lemons and is a wonderful, joyous accompaniment to September sunshine. It reminds me of a wonderful birthday that I spent there gazing across the bay to Mount Etna whilst enjoying an Aperol Spritz.

It is the traditional 'Peckham Rye Fete' on the Common today and I am volunteering at the Pimms & Beer tent ( in my defence I didn't chose this post!) from 3pm so I hope to see some of you there!  Then I have my dearest friend Emma's birthday lunch on Sunday and I can't wait for her to open her gifts as I was inspired! I will share these next week as I don't want to give the game away!

Have a lovely Autumn W/E everyone!
