If you only do one thing this weekend ... do this twice ...

Image
At dinner last night our host explained how she was given two Roullier White chocolate fondues for Christmas and asked if she could come in and exchange one for something else - Riedel stemless crystalware is Dulwich de rigueur at the moment, everyone wants them. We of course agreed. To celebrate the imminent arrival of the coolest wine glasses on the planet our host rushed off to fire up the remaining fondue. Only to find within the box the thoughtful gift-giver had concealed two bars of Green & Blacks chocolate; one white and one dark. After a bitter-sweet argument both fondues were used and the double-dipped dual-coated berry was born. Words cannot explain how delicious this is and how much fun we had. At only £15 each every home should own at least two chocolate fondues. Pop in and pick one up from our store in East Dulwich, Roullier White, 125 Lordship Lane, East Dulwich, London SE22 8HU Or buy online at www.roullierwhite.co m

A very welcome door mat

Image
We are all aware of the current trend of bringing the outdoors indoors, but here at Roullier White we believe there is a time and a place for everything and in wintertime the place for outside is just that. Boundaries are good things and trending mud on your newly polished floors oversteps the mark. Unlike our Connecticut cousins who all have very practical mud rooms we have to dance around taking our wellies off on a piece of coconut matting. This cast iron door mat will change you life, it will not rot like fibrous versions and you can easily pick it up to sweep beneath it. As the air circulates freely, dust and bugs do not collect under it either. Simply give your boots a good old stomp and you're all set. What is more it is only £20, we have seen them at around £50 and more! Pop in to our store; Roullier White, 125 Lordship Lane, London SE22 8HU or buy online at www.roullierwhite.com delivery is only £5 anywhere in the UK.

Les Amoureux

Image
It may be dark and rainy out but in our hearts it is springtime in Paris, as thoughts turn to Valentines Day, what could be more romantic that this stunning triptych screen?  What would you rather wake up to a pile of dirty washing in the corner or a tiny street corner of one most romantic cities in the world? Abandoned decades ago the screen was staple furnishing item in British homes up until the war. They were used, as we are suggesting, to mask messes and also to preserve modesty, provide privacy, define living areas, keep out draughts and act as a decorative item. Voila - the screen is back with a vengeance. Canvas stretched over wood: 180 x 120cm. £150 from our East Dulwich Store; Roullier White, 125 Lordship Lane, London SE22 8HU or online at www.roullierwhite.com

The toast of New York - Riedel stemless crystalware

Image
The hottest brand this spring in New York has to be Riedel; with their new stemless wineglasses, they are quite literally the toast of the city! Uber style conscious Manhattanites are swapping their traditional crystalware for these oh so chic new kids on the block. The ‘O’ collection from Riedel has two distinct advantages over its pedestrian predecessors; their lower centre of gravity means that extravagant arm gestures at the dining table are once again de rigueur with no risk to your good table linen or priceless rugs and secondly - a big boon for those of us that know the impossibility of fitting decent sized glasses into the dishwasher - the lack of stem results in the Riedel glasses nestling neatly in the machine and emerging sparkling and intact. (A top tip here when cleaning glasses in the dishwasher, always use a gel or liquid as powder effectively sandblasts the lustre off of the glass). Riedel was the first company in the world to recognize that wines from different grapes ...

Zyliss - Award Winning Tomato Peeler

Image
As anyone who has ever plunged their hand into a bowl of boiling water will testify the prospect of peeling a tomato is quite frankly unappealing. Thanks to the Swiss design company Zyliss, there is now more than one way to skin a tomato. No more vats of hot water and soggy fruit. Zyliss the Swiss uber-design company has come up with the Tomato Peeler. The Tomato Peeler’s multi-purpose serrated edges quickly peel fruits and vegetables, even difficult soft-skinned produce. It is great for ginger, leaving more of the root intact which is not possible with a knife. Its two edged blade permits back and forth peeling and making it equally practical for right or left-handed use. An extra sharp steel tip easily removes produce blemishes. Finally its ergonomic, generous sized handle makes it much more comfortable to hold than traditional metal peelers and is great for people with a weaker grip.  £7.25 from Roullier White.
