Making wash day a breeze

Long before every home had a washing machine the laundry would be sent out. To keep sets of bedlinen together the beds would be stripped and sheets and pillowcases from each set would be placed in one of the pillowcases and sent off for cleaning. This is why antique pillowcases are often monogrammed. They would be returned pressed and folded into the same pillowcase and the complete set would be stored together in the linen cupboard. Nowadays we mostly do our own laundry, but as you go from room to room do as they did before and strip each bed into one of its pillowcases. Wash and tumble dry in the case, iron and return to the pillow case for storing. This will save ages trying to sort sets out.
Remember our dryer balls as a more ecological alternative to fabric conditioner.
The pillowcase trick is also a great way to protect your delicates in the washing machine. The Laundress Delicate Wash is perfect for those treasured items.
