Ineke Rühland visits Roullier White

I have already mentioned that we would be having the privilege of meeting Ineke Rühland, the inspiring perfumer came to our store in East Dulwich yesterday, and it was a delight. Ineke is renowned within the perfume industry for her use of botanicals but I had no idea of the scale of her dedication.  Hearing or reading about a plant or flower, the scent of which might work in her  mind map of a new fragrance, Ineke will order the bulb or seed, grow the plant in her small garden in San Francisco and literally live with the scent before deciding whether or not it would work as an ingredient.

Sitting with Ineke on a sunny Friday afternoon, we had the unique opportunity of being walked through her whole range of fragrances from A to G with a sneak preview of ‘H’ Hot House Flower, which launches at Roullier White in October. With each fragrance in turn Ineke gave us samples to smell of the key individual notes, explaining their provenance and the reason for their inclusion. We were surprised to discover that many of the single notes Ineke actually makes herself calling upon her years of training as a classical perfumer – by the end I had a much greater appreciation of her orchestration of her symphony of scents.

Ineke’s Hot House Flower is a modern gardenia scent, rather than the heady, somewhat over-powering fragrance one might expect of this waxy bloom,  ‘H’ is mixed with foliage including green fig leaves and tea evoking the verdant dewy fronds of the conservatory; perfectly balancing the bountiful blossom.

If you would like a sneak preview of this divine fragrance, please pop into Roullier White to sample our pre-release tester.
Ineke’s fragrances are available in the UK from Roullier White.
