Today I Will Be Wearing: Union Fragrance's Quince, Mint and Moss

I was lucky enough to know about Union fragrances from the very early days. At a dinner party one evening, rather than the port, the perfumes were passed around and I immediately fell in love. As soon as they were released I rushed to Selfridges to buy my own sample to add to my collection of landmark fragrances.

Of the four divine scents (Gothic Bluebell = a masterpiece, Holy Thistle = groundbreaking, Celtic Fire = shivers down one’s spine) Quince, Mint and Moss is a classic, a genre forming scent, which in years to come perfumers will reference. The skill of the creation is in the complexity of making Quince, Mint and Moss appear so simple, yet be so sensational, of being new but feeling like you have loved it forever.

Mint is very much at the top of this scent, but not in a confectionery sense, very much in a garden sense and a garden gone slightly wild. Untended mint growing through the mossy stones of a tumbled down folly: the dewy Brunswick green cradling freshly fallen fleshy fruits; a few shattered, over-ripe quince oozing their nectarious pulp.

Imagine my delight when after Selfridges; exclusive launch, Roullier White was selected as the first global independent to carry this range. Now I can wear this green, always happy scent everyday – pop in and try it, there really is nothing else like it.

‘Our quinces hail from Somerset, and sit at the heart of this fragrance, exuding a vibrant, fresh nose that lifts the spirits. Garden mint at the top is accompanied by icy-cool juniper berries from the forests of Caledonia and spicy lime leaves. The emerging quince notes are encased in a herb crust with wild thyme from Snowdonia and sage from Gloucestershire. At the base, mountain ash extract from Sterling and soft Irish moss provide a verdant cushion.’
