Sunday Shopping: Lush Designs Opens on Lordship Lane

We lucky locals of East Dulwich are delighted this weekend to welcome back lovely Lush Designs. After the huge success of their recent pop-up shop the divine design-duo, Marie Rodgers and Maria Livings, have set up permanent shop just opposite Roullier White on Lordship Lane and we are all thrilled.

Many years ago I was wowed by a box of vegetable napkins I bought from the original Lush Designs shop in Greenwich. I thought they were the most glorious things I had seen and the concurrence of many dinner party guests proved me right.

Luminaries of the design world, Lush Designs, have redefined home interiors with their bold, witty imagery and confident use of colour. Their clever application of prints will add a dash of flourish and flair to any interior, not least of all their lampshades; which will be design classics of the future. Similarly I predict this wild boar wallpaper being referenced for years to come.

I adore this new bee-keeper design; right, wonderfully British, completely quirky and bang-on-trend with its teale and peach colour palette.

The new Lush Designs store in East Dulwich is spread over two floors with an upstairs show room showcasing bedding and fabrics. Displayed in situ, and how it might look in your home, furniture upholstered in Lush Designs fabric mingles with suspended shades against a backdrop of statement wallpaper

Brent Leonesio of Smell Bent will be in store on Thursday 25th September - come and say 'hello'.  Traditionally perfumery has always been a difficult skill to learn, expertise and knowledge was handed down through the family so it was very much a closed shop. Budding perfumers could seek entry level work at one of the great fragrances houses and hope to learn the ropes on the job or train as apprentices with a master artisan perfumer but opportunities were few. Things opened up a little when the Givaudan Perfumery School in France opened in 1946. The school claims to be responsible for training the noses behind one third of fragrances on sale today, including Chanel’s Jean Polge and Hermes’ Jean-Claude Ellena, mastermind behind my beloved Cologne Bigarade for Editions Frederic Malle.
