Shop Spotlight - Rye Books

Nestled half way between the leafy green expanse of Peckham Rye Common and the bustle of Lordship Lane, Rye Books have gone from strength to strength since their opening back in 2011. Despite their relatively small size, Rye Books carry an impressive selection of works from a number of genres, from foreign language volumes to all manner of special interest genres such as film and travel. There is also a huge selection of children's books, catering to the large number of young families living in the area. In fact, Rye Books has become something of a meeting place for parents. Thanks to their twice-weekly children's story time, Rye Books have created a warm, friendly environment where parents and kids alike can get together in an atmosphere of peaceful serenity for readings and meetings.

The shop isn't just aimed at children though. Rye Books offer a number of events to keep literary grown ups entertained. Every month sees a different author visiting the store to discuss their latest book, with celebrated writers of fiction and non-fiction coming to read from their work. For fans of the silver screen, Rye Books have also started hosting free film screenings throughout the summer. Playing a selection of obscure - and sometimes not so obscure - film picks from a variety of eras, the screenings are another way for the shop to reach out and interact with the community of East Dulwich.

Owner Alistair, and his ubiquitous dog, Bert, have turned Rye Books into an integral part of the local community! You can sometimes spot them driving around the area in their iconic and charming van.
