Absolutely Magazine: June: Father's Day Fragrance Gift Guide



Buying gifts for men is notoriously difficult, fragrance is an obvious choice as it is something they will use and hopefully will not have. But as we all know Fathers can be fussy, so what to buy? If you recognise a character trait in the ten below we think we might well have found him the perfect scent. 

The Ozowner: blustering walks along the seashore in wellies and Aran knits, throwing sticks for the dog and skimming stones on the surf. Samphire (£60) by Laboratory Perfumes, created to conjure images of coastal Britain.

The Cultural Curator: a collector of ephemera; framed movie posters and album covers. Sees beauty in a bus ticket and can recognise a font at fifty paces. Design classic 4711 (£10) in the iconic watch bottle.

The Sartorial Savant: impeccably elegant; pinstripe suiting and a glimpse of starched white cuff. Buffed brogues and a tailoring buff. Number 89 (£75) by Floris, the royal perfumery, and what James Bond really wore. 

The Visionary: a finger on the pulse and a pulse increased by the thrill of spotting a trend and discovering the new. City on Fire (£70) by Imaginary Authors from the home of happening; Portland, Oregon. 

The Leading Man: a sports car along the Riviera, cocktails on the yacht with Taylor & Burton. Cap d’Antibes (£125) by Eight & Bob, old style Hollywood glamour in a bottle, with a dash of Euro-elegance.

The New Traditionalist: cool, calm and collected; an aesthetic drawn from an love of the old and an appreciation of the new. Y3 trainers and an old cashmere jumper. Homme For Men 1 (£42) by Molinard.

The Man of the Moment: up to date and on top of trends. Knows his news and what’s in and what’s out. Illuminé (£85) by Nancy Meiland, bright green and bang on trend. 

The Weekend Laird: enjoys high times in the Highlands; Harris tweed and single Scotch, loving Lovat and log fires. 1445 (£50) by Castle Forbes.

The History Man: a lover of provenance, a teller of tails, fascinated and fascinating. Platinum Muscus (£130) by Electimuss, the company that is taking perfumery back to its roots. 

The Connoisseur: knows his craft beers and his real ales, will cycle miles for the preferred artisan loaf, served with cold brewed single estate coffee. Arabico (£85) by Farmacia SS Annunziata, a fragrance we find hard to top.
