A Dozen Roses

Image
Roullier White was honoured to host an exceptional event last night that proved rose fragrances have seen a spectacular revival in recent years. Guests to the event took a 'stroll' through an arbour of modern rose fragrances with the incredibly scholarly Michael Donovan as their guide. Michael covered the outstanding beauty of twelve modern fragrances, each with their unique take on one of perfume's most cherished ingredients. The talk was inspirational, insightful, and certainly entertaining. The event also saw Nancy Meiland take to the stage to talk about the inspiration behind her own modern rose fragrance, Rosier. Meiland charted the history of the supple rose as an ingredient in perfumery, even taking inspiration from famous paintings, showcasing the natural beauty of the rose. The event could not have been possible without The Perfume Society, and Roullier White was absolutely thrilled to be in the presence of such dedicated and masterful experts within the world ...

Roullier White Invites you to Bask in Modern Rose Fragrances

Image
The rose has become a much maligned bloom in recent years, consigned to occupy the space in our olfactory memory reserved for ‘soapy’, ‘powdery’, or worst of all ‘old fashioned’. However, recent years have seen a surge of perfumers attempting to reassert the rose as a vital, fun, and very much alive aspect of modern perfumery, emphasizing the natural aroma of the flower that has been eclipsed in our collective consciousness by its inferior synthetic counterpart. To celebrate the changing legacy of this fantastic flower, Roullier White will be hosting our Evening of Modern Rose Fragrances tomorrow night, in association with The Perfume Society. Guest speakers will include industry insider Michael Donovan, an expert with over 20 years experience in the business, and Nancy Meiland, a rapidly rising star in the world of British perfumery, to talk about her Paper Leaf fragrance collection that features Rosier, a stunning modern interpretation of a rose based scent. Sparkling rosè a...

Happy Birthday, Hemingway!

Image
Today marks the 115th anniversary of Ernest Hemingway's birth, the self styled 'Papa' of American letters. Hemingway's life and work saw him travel extensively around the globe, and through these travels he developed a striking affinity for certain corners of the world. Since the trailblazing author's sad and untimely death in 1961, people have been continually fascinated by Hemingway's legacy. To pay tribute, here's our collection of artisan makers who have tried to capture something of the magic of Hemingway's life, using it as a creative spur to their own imaginations. Named after the author's house in his beloved Cuba, Finca Vigia from Jardins d'Ecrivains is a diffuser designed as an olfactory invocation of Hemingway's island paradise. With aromas of palo santo, white ginger lily and banana tree flower, the fragrance is exotic yet warm and comforting, the true spirit of home. 1899 by Histoires de Parfums is named for the year o...

Today I'm Wearing: Fougère Nobile by Nobile 1942

Image
Today I’m wearing a scent that’s as perfect for hot summer nights as it is for cozy autumn evenings, Fougère Nobile from the stalwart Italian house of Nobile 1942. Featuring an array of smoky, spicy accords, Nobile treats these heavier notes with a deft lightness of touch that belies the extent of their skills. After an initial burst of bergamot and soothing lavender, mingled with a hint of spice, a wonderfully addictive interplay of tobacco and vanilla reveals itself. A simple backdrop of vetiver and musk in the base notes grounds the scent with consummate poise, making for a beguiling and eminently wearable fragrance. To find out more about Fougère Nobile, and the entire range from Nobile 1942, check out our website here .

Top 5: Tube-Friendly Fragrances

Image
Sillage, the ability of a fragrance to remain in the air during wear, is an often-misconstrued aspect of perfumery. Whilst a strong sillage can be ideal when looking to impress at an event or informal gathering, the effect can be stifling in cramped conditions. This is particularly noticeable in summer, as the top and middle notes of perfume quickly evaporate in warmer weather, leaving only the heavier, overpowering base notes. For those who like their fragrances to be a little more demur, and want to match their everyday scent to the season, we’ve assembled a collection of brighter compositions with less pronounced projection, meaning your fellow commuters will have to lean in if they want a better taste! All five of these sensational scents can be found on our website, here .              1.   Agrumi by Farmacia SS Annunziata       This Italian house boasts a history that st...
