Top 5: Tube-Friendly Fragrances

Sillage, the ability of a fragrance to remain in the air during wear, is an often-misconstrued aspect of perfumery. Whilst a strong sillage can be ideal when looking to impress at an event or informal gathering, the effect can be stifling in cramped conditions. This is particularly noticeable in summer, as the top and middle notes of perfume quickly evaporate in warmer weather, leaving only the heavier, overpowering base notes. For those who like their fragrances to be a little more demur, and want to match their everyday scent to the season, we’ve assembled a collection of brighter compositions with less pronounced projection, meaning your fellow commuters will have to lean in if they want a better taste! All five of these sensational scents can be found on our website, here

1. Agrumi by Farmacia SS Annunziata
This Italian house boasts a history that stretches back to medieval times, yet that hasn’t stopped Farmacia from creating clean, modern fragrances with forward thinking olfactory nouse. Agrumi is a citrusy scent, yet with eucalyptus as the sole heart note of the fragrance, it quickly becomes apparent that this is something special. Using only four notes in the entire scent, Agrumi is an outstanding ode to simplicity and poise.

Our second fragrance is from Italian masters of minimalism, Laboratorio Olfattivo. Decou-Vert is an intoxicating, sultry composition that whispers rather than shouts. Beautifully elegant and understated, the result a harmonious combination of green foliage and aqueous characteristics, with the timeless and seductive aroma of Magnolia anchoring this ephemeral scent. Décou-Vert is a triumph from start to finish; it simply has to be experienced!

Capturing the wearer with an instant and undeniable freshness, Mediterraneo is a more complex composition that sees notes from countries throughout the Mediterranean coming together in a celebration of the region. Spanish red thyme is combined with Egyptian jasmine and Sicillian lemons for an uplifting effect, uniquely multifaceted whilst remaining enticing, tranquil, and beautifully discreet. This is one of Carthusia’s most sought after scents for a reason!

Continuing this Mediterranean theme, Tepidarium also presents a less than straightforward summer scent, thanks to its heady mixture of boozy peach aromas and sparkling top notes, giving a real sense of light and shade to the fragrance. Rum and pina colada give Tepidarium a warm, playful kick, whilst bright grapefruit and lemon give a vibrant sheen to the more alcoholic notes.

Our final fragrance sees us move away from Europe, instead turning our attention across the pond. Over in sunny LA, Brent Leonisio’s hip Smell Bent range has gone from strength to strength thanks to colourful designs and quirky compositions. With Brussels Sprouted, Brent presents us with a blend of sweet green notes and spicy Himalayan cedar that provides a fresh take on what a summer scent can be.
