A Day at 100% Design

Roullier White were lucky enough to spend a day at the awe-inspiring 100% Design show in Kensington Olympia yesterday. The event featured some truly unique and stimulating creations in the world of design, from docking stations built into your table, to concrete garden chairs. The event showcased the forefront of interior design, with slick and beautiful furniture that longed to be part of your home. We have decided to showcase six companies, all unique in their own right.

1. Terra
One of the first things that caught our eye were these deliciously crafted clay cups and bowls from Argentina. In the Terra studio, white clay is decorated with pigments, glaze and metal oxides, fixed firing the elements at 1120 C, which gives the pieces high mechanical resistance. The muted colours and the genius wooden spoon bowl holder won our hearts from the second we walked in.

2. Karven
Next up is Dutch based company Karven. Simplicity in its most basic form is what defines Karven's Roest (Dutch for rust) collection by VanJoost. They showcased a deep understanding of natural and familiar colours in unusual settings, making a novelty out of the familiar by moving the rusty and rough outdoors inside. Genius.

3. Lyon Beton
"Concrete Living" subverted our expectations of what furniture could be. These surprisingly comfy chairs were made out of pure concrete, a contemporary image of the chair of the 50s. The legs are even made out of steel rods, the perfect level of authenticity for this truly unique design. Their extremely clever concrete cloud toilet paper holder was also one of the highlights of the show.

4. Jam Jar Lights
This handmade Jamjar cluster stole the show by creating a beautifully unique focal point to the room. They are hung from the ceiling with Multi Outlet Ceiling Rose in your choice of Black, White, Copper, Chrome or Galvanised. These bespoke lights can be fully customised with the cable being made to any length, and also the amount of jars. The company themselves claimed to have made a 50 jam jar chandelier! Impressive indeed.

5. Stori

Believe it or not, these amazingly attractive handbags are made entirely out of paper. Stori combines elements of Korean traditional excellence in arts and crafts with contemporary techniques, and have showcased a number of innovations to conventional handbag design. The bags are woven together so tightly that once completed, they are extremely robust and even waterproof, the largest handbag taking 3 weeks to construct. The beautiful tote bags are our personal favourite, coming in a range of sublime colours.

6. Pico Pebble Seats

These unbelievably slick (and comfortable!) seats were also another showstopper. The giant cast-concrete Pebbles are uniquely polished to look and feel like natural stone, creating a soothing atmosphere. We couldn't help picture this expertly crafted design in a serene garden set up. Simply beautiful.
