Supplier Spotlight: Pommade Divine

In use for centuries as a natural remedy for burns, bites, scratches, scars and more, Pommade Divine was once a household name both in Britain and across the pond before its untimely demise during the 1980s. However, for all fans of natural care there's a reason to rejoice, because this famous preparation has finally been reborn, much to the delight of all devoted customers! Made from a beautiful combination of cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, and benzoin, its wonderfully warming fragrance is a comfort to the senses while the 97% natural ingredients work to soothe and calm irritated skin.

Documented evidence of Pommade Divine's use stretches back centuries, with the original compositions created by French monks in the first millennium, basing their concoction on the old Anglo-Saxon 'nine herbs charm' that called for apples, animal fats, and a mixture of fragrant oils and herbs. Many believe this numinous origin is what led to the 'Divine' moniker that has graced bottles since the early 1800s, although bottles of homemade 'pommade divine' were ubiquitous throughout the country as people discovered the nourishing qualities of the balm for themselves. Marie-Antoinette's great grandmother, the Bavarian princess Elisabeth Charlotte, wrote of her adoration for the healing pommade in the 18th century, claiming it to be 'the best thing if you have burned yourself with sealing wax' and testifying its ability to clear up cuts and scrapes in letters to her family.

Although a number of manufacturers competed for their right to ownership of the Pommade Divine recipe in the late 1700s, it was Butlers and Co. who eventually emerged victorious at the dawn of the 19th Century, and it is their patented recipe that remains in use today. In the age of Empire, the British beauty secret found its way to all corners of the globe, becoming so popular and widespread it was said every nanny in every nursery kept a bottle by her side!

We're thrilled to see the return of this wonderful product, and delighted to share it with our customers. Effective at treating any number of skin complaints, and suitable for use on children and pregnant women thanks to its harmless natural recipe, Pommade Divine is truly a beauty miracle that we can't bear to be without!
