The Most Fascinating Fragrance Love Story Ever Told?

From the husband and wife team that brought the world Eau d’Italie, comes ALTAIA; an acronym for ‘A Long Time Ago In Argentina’.

The collection tells the story of Sebastian Alvarez Murena and Marina Sersale, who met by chance and fell in love; unaware that their pasts were linked by their ancestors over a century earlier.

Sebastian's great great grandfather, General Bartolomè Mitre, Argentina’s President from 1821 to 1906, decided to open his country up to trade and industrialisation and attracted the attention of James Morrison, one of England’s most remarkable entrepreneurs and Marina's great great grandfather. The pair proceeded to invest in a railway building programmes that would forever transform the country. 140 years later their descendants, Sebastian and Marina, now married complete the circle with this stunning collection of scents.

In the rose gardens of Sudeley Castle as a young girl, Marina's mother received a proposal of marriage. Although she refused, the picturesque beauty of this scene stayed with her forever, and By Any Other Name is the olfactory encapsulation of this moment. An opening of citrus toned bergamot mingles with fresh lychee. A heart of soft, subtle rose mingled with peony and apricot-tinged osmanthus is beguiling and nuanced. In the base, cedar and musk combine for an effect that mirrors the warmth and sensuality of human skin.

Sebastian left his home of Argentina at a young age, Don't Cry For Me is a joyful olfactory experience that recalls the vibrancy of the country, summoning an array of carefully chosen notes to communicate the sensation. Building from an opening of sweet cherry flower and delicate jasmine tea mingled with freesia, almond scented heliotrope sweeps in, buoyed on a wave of richly fragrant and soothing vegetal amber. A base of dry, delicate cashmere wood flecked with musky ambrette seed rounds the scent off in exquisite fashion.

Yu Sōn
Yu Sōn
Named for an ancient Chinese poem, Yu Sōn is a celebration of the love shared by Marina and Sebastian, and a celebration of their first meeting in the south of Italy, where fragrant orange groves perfume the air. A delectable pairing of mandarin and green tea in the opening, with heart notes of orange blossom absolute deepen and enrich. Iris lends its distinctive tones to these heart notes, balancing the strident orange notes perfectly before a deep, base of warming vegetal amber and smoky guaiac wood rounds the scent off with sophisticated aplomb.

As author of The Best Bread Ever; Charles Van Over is expected to show everywhere up with an armful of bread. Whilst Charles enjoys breaking bread with friends; he does insist that the bread is properly sliced with a breadknife, not just ripped apart.
