Thank You So Much & Merry Christmas!

With just a couple of days to go, I wanted to say how grateful I am to all of you for your patronage, your loyalty and your kindness throughout 2018!
It has been a very scary year as the retail landscape has shifted seismically, however I truly believe that small, independent retailers like us can reclaim the High Street, offering not only exceptional service but also more carefully curated collections from exceptional artisans around the world.
I have noticed a marked change in the tastes of our customers and there is a palpable desire for high quality, handmade products with integrity - designs that connect us to something real - not just aesthetically but intellectually and emotionally too. The touch of the human hand if you will!
It is my great privilege to unearth talent and shine a spotlight upon it and this year has been very fulfilling indeed with highlights including jewellery makers from Paris, potters from Latvia, Ireland, Italy and Denmark, weavers from Stockholm, perfumers from Michigan, Amsterdam & Bangkok and, of course, home grown talent from across the UK. The latter has given me particular joy as it is clear that there are some wonderfully gifted local craftsmen and women emerging onto the world stage and I intend to help them!
We have also been able to work with products that directly benefit communities, be it the oak 'Parole' chopping boards produced for us by one of HM Prisons or the beautiful Casseroles that assist the people of Lombok to recover from the earthquake that devastated the island this summer.
Moving forward I want to work more closely with producers and develop collections specifically for Roullier White and to realise partnerships that will make a positive difference in the world, 'retail philanthropy' that not only celebrates beautiful, practical design but helps people to improve their lives.
And I couldn't do any of this without you. Thank you for supporting small, independent retailers like us online and in-store and for the incredibly positive feedback that you are kind enough to send me. I am very proud to be able to write to you each week and thrilled when we receive a visit from one of our online family (as we did this week when a delightful mother and daughter came all the way from Hertfordshire to see the RW store in the flesh - I hope that you enjoyed it!)

I would like to wish you and yours a very Happy Christmas, full of as much love, laughter and, of course, style, as possible!

Bâtard Folding Picnic Knife by Lamson & Goodnow

As author of The Best Bread Ever; Charles Van Over is expected to show everywhere up with an armful of bread. Whilst Charles enjoys breaking bread with friends; he does insist that the bread is properly sliced with a breadknife, not just ripped apart. The problem here is that bread knives are very long and with their serrated edges they are not the easiest of things to carry around. Charles wondered why a folding bread knife could not be produced and took his idea for a pocket bread knife to Lamson & Goodnow, American manufacturers of the LamsonSharp range. The Bâtard Folding Picnic knife is the result of this collaboration. At Roullier White we believe this may possibly be the best picnic knife ever made. The French word bâtard – and yes it does translate how you think it does – is a shorter and thicker type of baguette.
