Good Morning & Greetings From The Seaside! After several weeks of painting and varnishing the interior of Roullier White, I have returned to the coast for a well earned w/e of R & R! The store is looking rather radiant, if I do say so myself, so now it's just a question of a few finishing touches and we are ready to re-open our doors (drum roll)! Shop Now - Flat Fish Plate - £13.50 I created an undersea-scape for the window this week (above) just to get the creative juices flowing and am rather pleased with the results. I love this collection of fish plates and platters in their various shapes, the flat fish or plaice plate(!) is wonderful, the silver metal crayfish salt cellars, coral and sea urchin lights and, most of all, the jellyfish paperweights (the GD has an eye on these for the Hove apartment) which are very large, weighty and impactful ! Shop Now - Pyjamas With Shorts - Blue Check With White Dot Detail - £41.00 Newness has been trickling in as the supply chains slowly get back on track and I was delighted to receive my new Pyjamas (with Shorts!) from Ireland on Monday. The nights have been very warm of late so these were just the ticket and I must say that I feel rather debonair in them - so much so that I have taken to wearing them after my post-decorating shower each evening. Pale blue check, soft cotton with a subtle, yet sophisticated, white dot detail, they are actually a limited edition and very generous and comfortable. The postman was most impressed this morning and now wants a pair for himself! Here in the UK there are so many great artisans and one of my favourites has just produced the most wonderful range with a Collective in India. The Honey Bee Collection includes cushions, oven mitts, tea-towels and napkins, all ethically produced from a blend of recycled cotton and virgin cotton to give a durable and uniform weave whilst reducing the carbon footprint of production. Using recycled fibres also helps by diverting waste from landfill. This project's employees are paid fair wages and enjoy safe and comfortable working conditions with no child employment, plus it supports the lives of orphans in the local community! I love the products and the ethics so much that we have also invested in a collection of striped Tablecloths and Tea Towels. I have chosen the colours of Terracotta and Prussian Blue which are absolutely beautiful! A most worthy enterprise and we are very proud to be involved. Shop Now - Women's Slippers - Leather Mules - Pink - £26.00 Our handmade leather slippers have been a huge hit - the combination of hot weather and the sunny colours proving irresistible. We have been lobbied to introduce a pink shade and so, this week, the prettiest pink shade arrived to join the ensemble. I would call it a dusky, vintage pink - so sophisticated rather than vivid. Shades of Darcey Bussell (prior to Strictly). Shop Now - Aqua Dos Açores Collection - £75 And finally, as promised, a new fragrance collection! This is exclusive to us in the UK and I am thrilled to have found it. Aqua Dos Açores comes from Portugal and is inspired by the Azores, those tiny islands out in the mid Atlantic. I only really know about them because my in-laws cruised there last year and I remember them telling me of a tunnel that links one island with the next which I thought most impressive. The owner comes from Florence but fell in love with the islands and bought a property there and she and her husband founded a vineyard. “The Volcano's Cellar',  grows native vines on the unique soil which is covered with the sand and ash expelled by the dos Capelinhos volcano. They make small productions of exceptional wines with highly defined personalities. If that wasn't enough she has now launched an excellent fragrance brand and I am absolutely smitten by the first two fragrances 'Flores' and 'Azul'. Shop Now - Aqua Dos Açores Collection - £75 The former, as the name suggests, is a floral scent with aquatic notes at the top. Imagine tuberose, ylang ylang and jasmine covered in a light sea spray. Neroli and bergamot add sunshine and kahili ginger adds an extra touch of zing. This is a knockout summer scent; open, fresh and brimming with joie de vivre! 'Azul' is a marine, ozonic, woody scent which  calls to mind ocean winds over old wooden sailing ships drenched in salt and storms. Floral notes blend with sage and ambergris. It features precious natural extracts of Cryptomeria, Geranium Bourbon, Clary Sage, Lentisk, Bergamot, Davana and Opoponax. I love it, playful but adventurous and outdoorsy! This couple is also passionate about sustainability and so the fragrances are produced responsibly, protecting the environment and are paraben, silicon and petroleum free, suitable for vegans and cruelty-free. The bottle is made from recycled glass and the packaging completely biodegradable and recyclable.  So there you have it, 2 fragrances that are pretty much perfect! This w/e will be devoted to the GD and getting the new apartment shipshape. Hopefully a little more of Hove will have unlocked and we can get more of a feel of what it will be like when businesses begin to re-open. My Mother and sister will be visiting our garden on Thursday so I need to ensure that surfaces are gleaming !  I also have to tidy the garden as  weeds are approaching knee height and I am somewhat embarrassed.  This will hopefully be my final week of Lockdown and I am feeling rather nostalgic already - while isolation has been hard in so many ways, it has been 'splendid' in others and I have learned much from the experience.
