A Month of 4160 Tuesdays: Day 11: Silk, Lace & Chocolate

It is Valentine's evening and she has just given the performance of her life. The audience gave her a rapturous standing ovation that seemed to go on for hours. Any concerns her agent had about reviews were unfounded, she can hear the critics now, clamouring at her dressing room door, eager for a few words from the star who had just made the comeback of the century. 

She allows her costume, an ivory cocktail dress, to drop to the floor and in stockinged feet and lace-edged silk camisole she steps out of the crumpled circle, leaving it for her dresser to pick up later. She slips into a silk kimono and sits. As she starts to remove her stage make up she catches a glimpse of her lover in the mirror, the play's producer, dosing in the chair by the desk. She sighs as she begins to brush out her hair. 

There is a knock and from behind the door, above the chatter of the reporters, the young male lead announces himself. She opens the paint chipped panel not bothering to tie the robe that hangs from her pale shoulders. Lost for words, and not knowing where to look, he hurriedly hands her a heart-shaped box of chocolates, she smiles and kisses him lightly on the mouth, closing the door before he has a chance to speak. 

Back in front of the mirror she opens the box and reaches for her favourite, a strawberry cream. Distracted by a sudden snore, she puts the fruit shaped chocolate back. Time to try something new, she thinks to herself, as her red manicured hand swipes a slash of scarlet across her pouting lips.
