I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside!

I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside! I spent last w/e in St Leonards-On-Sea with some friends who have bought the most beautiful Georgian house on the seafront. I took them a gift of our striped mugs in pale grey as Sam is an architect and I guessed that this would suit the interior perfectly. The theory is that they will think of me when they drink their morning coffee from these stylish pieces  however as their view is a complete panorama of the ocean I very much doubt it! We walked into Hastings and spent an afternoon rummaging in the second hand/antique shops in the Old Town and had a thoroughly wonderful time. It was absolutely baking - in fact my friends took a dip in the sea at 9.30am which is virtually unheard of in the UK!  Buy Now - Large Ceramic Mug In Grey Stripe - £16 On my return to RW, I was reminded by a thoughtful customer( my thanks to you Nathalie) of the practicalities of wearing scent in the sunshine and so I thought

Flexible Design, Hot Leather,  Figs & a Fish Dish!     "Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful" I'm sorry but I think that William Morris was mistaken !  I like a product that is both beautiful AND practical, they are not necessarily mutually exclusive! Above all I love design that works hard in the home, that can multi-task, and something landed on my desk this week that got my heart beating a little faster! Buy Now - Stoneware Wine Cooler- £27.50 This stoneware Wine Cooler can be popped into the freezer for a couple of hrs and then it is ready to chill your White Wine or Rose to the perfect temperature. It is also a thing of beauty with it's matt black, body peppered with slightly glossy markings that remind me of  a leopard. And this is not the end of its abilities - when not chillin', it makes a beautiful vase or a kitchen utensil holder! 3 for the price of 1 and

Indulgence & Perspective

Indulgence & Perspective This week I have managed a quick get-away to my home in the recently rebranded 'Occitanie' area of southern France just above the Spanish border and I am writing from my newly gravelled, parterre garden and listening to the village bells strike the hr! The peace and pace of life here is magical in the summer - the days are endlessly sunny, there are no aeroplanes or traffic, apart from the odd tractor, and I awake to a cockerel's crow which is mostly arcadian however this morning he was in especially 'splendide' voice and I forgot for a moment that I am vegetarian! It is like living in a Thomas Hardy novel apart from the fact that the villagers are not from Dorset!  A holiday home is a privilege and a luxury so it can be both practical and indulgent and I try to strike a balance. The decoration is my indulgence - the dining room for example is much grander than I have at home in England and full of the nin
