Marvellous Mules, Bathing Beauties, The Perfect Vase, Mossies Forever & Wimbledon, What Might Have Been!

Marvellous Mules, Bathing Beauties, The Perfect Vase, Mossies Forever & Wimbledon, What Might Have Been!
Good Morning!
I hope that I find you all well and chipper  - we are now in May, my favourite month of the year normally! It is the best time in the garden and we have the whole summer to look forward to, so hopefully the central heating can be shut off soon - it's still chilly at night be the sea!
My stalking paid off and I am now the proud owner of two giant decanters which, I hope that you agree, look magnificent! The antique dealer and I worked out the perfect liaison - I did my food shop on the day that he goes in to collect his mail, so I was passing his store (only 3 mins from my apartment) anyway, I posted cash through the letterbox and on my way back he had left my parcel outside. It's all very MI6 - we should have had a code word!
As I am optimistic that RW may be allowed to re-open in the not too distant future (I do hope that I am not tempting providence!), have decided to take the plunge and order some of the new products that caught my eye at the shows earlier this year. I am not known for my patience and cannot wait any longer as some of them are perfect for spending time at home and are in lovely, happy, summer colours!
Shop Now - Women's Slippers - Leather Mules - £26
We discovered a delightful, British brand at the London show way back in January and fell for their super-stylish handmade, leather slippers for women. These are mules - ie you slide your feet straight into them, and so are easy to wear and lovely and cool. Best of all are the colours; they are gloriously uplifting so we have indulged in the brightest orange, mustard and aqua. The Lovely Lene has also insisted on a slate grey for those with more purist, minimal sensibilities! They come in 3 sizes, are a fantastic price, and will make you beam every time you look at them. As we are all now living in slippers (and gardening shoes!) I thought them the perfect treat!
Shop Now - Natural Oak Towel Rail - £150.00
Shop Now - Oak Bath Bridge - £61.25
The GD is the On-Call Dr for Sussex this week, which means phone-calls in the middle of the night and, if we are unlucky, trips to the hospital or even police cells in the small hrs. It is incredibly stressful (and I'm only making the coffee!), so will be doing my best to create a haven of peace and calm and picking up the domestic slack. When you are awoken from a deep sleep at 2am and have to shower and drive across the county urgently then chaos can ensue, with wet towels and cornflakes everywhere so I am fully prepared this time. Have just purchased a white oak towel rail, which looks a picture in the main bathroom and is a nice size for a bath sheet so will have everything fresh and dry in no time (there have been towels over radiators and my mother would not approve!). I also indulged in the matching 'bath bridge' because I found it hard to corral bathing bits without it. Soap and sponge, bath oil and pumice all slot neatly, don't make a mess, get lost or look untidy stacked along the bath edge. They look very Skandi Spa and are both practical and aesthetically pleasing.
Shop Now - Glass Vase - £42
I was hunting for the perfect vase throughout the Spring and it is not as easy as one would think. Unfortunately I made the fatal mistake of having exactly what I wanted in terms of shape, size and colour in my head, which almost never materialises and I really should know better. However, on this one occasion, it worked and I found precisely what I had imagined in Denmark. A gorgeous, minimal shape with a slightly 1960's influence but still contemporary, it is so chic and I am absolutely delighted. Large enough(20cm x 14cm) for a good display without taking up the whole table and, I think, beautiful enough to display without flowers (although I am entertaining the idea of silk blooms, as the ones in France are so good you cannot tell the difference - we shall see). The only sad thing about my perfect vase is that they are a one off and the designer will not make any more, so we have 24 pieces across three, graduated colours (amber, green and clear) and once these have sold then my search will begin all over again!
Shop Now -Mrs White's Unstung Hero (EdC) Mosquito Repellent - £20.00
I have returned to London this w/e as we suddenly heard from a few of our 'Unstung Hero' stockists this week who would like their stock (which is most welcome!) - mosquitoes are forever! And so I am bottling, which I find cathartic.
Shop Now - Recycled Leather Briefcase - £134.50
As my thoughts turned towards returning to work, we received an order from Argentina which was surprising as I understood that they were not allowing air traffic in and out of the country or perhaps this is just commercial flights and cargo is OK. Anyway I was pleased as have been wanting to acquire a cognac briefcase for the office. I am so fed up of wearing trainers and sweatshirts etc - I don't know how I morphed into this dowdy creature and I want to smarten up my act and this is the beginning! A good size for one's laptop and a strap for hands-free carriage, I have acquired a lot of neutral summer clothes and my current work bag is plain black so this will be much more stylish. It is made from recycled leather and does have a black panel so I think will look pretty elegant with any work ensemble - smart or casual - and hopefully re-ignite my desire to look dapper. I may burn the track pants!
Shop Now - Red Clay Bowl 3L - £57
As you can see from the opening image, our walls are painted a deep blue/grey which I have grown to love and, as luck would have it, we already sell a really lovely, 3 litre bowl in the same shade! I could't believe it when I got it home - it is kismet and meant to be. The GD has already given up on my kleptomania but we now have a really beautiful fruit bowl which, when not is use, matches the walls! Hand made for us in Latvia, we also have a Vermeer white and a grass green, which looks like centre court at Wimbledon. Speaking of which, this year I was thrilled when I finally won 2 tickets to Court 1 at the Championships! I had arranged to take my sister as a treat and and was booking a lavish lunch, Champagne and strawberries, the total experience. Obviously this year's Wimbledon is now cancelled, however rather than let us carry-over the tickets until 2021, they are sending me my money back and I will have to take my chances again in January! Rude is what it is!
Well that's it from me for this w/e. I shall be in London for a while as I need to re-paint our shelves and floors - another relaxing and rewarding exercise. I have always enjoyed decorating, like gardening there is peace in it!
I worry about everyone as I know it is so stressful having one's civil liberties curtailed for such a long period, however we will appreciate each other all the more when this is over and our shops and services, the theatre and cinema and being able to go on holiday. The French are to allow us Brits back into their glorious country soon without quarantine and so the GD and I are plotting a trip to the House in Fontiers in July - I hope it is possible but even the prospect lifts our spirits.
I would like to thank everyone for supporting us in our hour of need, it is truly humbling and I am most grateful to you all!
Have a relaxing and indulgent w/e and I shall speak to you soon.
