Dying to get you windows clean? The real dangers of commercially produced window and glass cleaners
As I was cleaning the glass in my front door yesterday afternoon with Mrs White's Miraculous Glass Cleaner – Let the Light Shine Through! - spraying away I was pleasantly showered in the face by our lovely citrus blend. At the same time I was struck with a notion. What could I be breathing in if I was not using one of Roullier White's all natural Mrs White's people, pet and planet friendly cleaners but one of those nasty toxic ones from the commercial giants? It is likely that the window cleaner or glass cleaner you are liberally spraying around your home contains at least one, or if not more, of the following poisons; ammonia, ethanol, isopropyl alcohol and methanol.
Ammonia is a skin and eye irritant which can cause chemical burns. Ethanol is a skin and eye irritant which will cause nausea and vomiting. Isopropyl alcohol is twice as toxic as ethanol and is an active ingredient in antifreeze. However the real killer is methanol, it attacks the nervous system; ingestion of as little as 10 ml can cause blindness and a 100 ml dose is fatal in an adult. Methanol is the main component of methylated spirits.
About 30% of all admissions to hospital of children under the age of 15 are caused by accidental poisoning by household products.

Mrs White's Aroomatics™
We all want our homes to smell fragrant, but at what cost? Did you realise the air that you are breathing could be poisoning you? What you probably do not know (because the information which is provided is misleading) is that most home fragrances are not derived from plants and flowers but from petrochemicals. Whilst a label might simply say a product contains "fragrance," that fragrance can contain over six-hundred synthetic petrochemicals. Mrs White's people, pet and planet friendly Aroomatics™ range of room and fabric fragrances uses only the finest aromatherapy grade essentials oils, there are absolutely no nasty chemicals in them whatsoever.
Pin Provençal; the fresh and fragrant scent of the cypress pine trees of the South of France. A wonderfully woody aroma with a tangy citrus base note and a touch of ozone. Like a stroll along the wooded Calanques of Cassis.
Rose Arbour; when my parents were courting, couples would stroll around the parks on Sunday afternoons. The most romantic spot in their local Peckham Rye Park was the Sexby Rose Garden, with its dense covered walkways of rose arbours it was a popular spot for young couples. Years late my mother would take me to the Rose Garden, the scent of the roses was intoxicating, we would collect the fallen petals and later use them to make rose water. I wanted to create a fragrance that reminded me of those endless, childhood, English summers.
Citrus Grove; my dear friend Emma Corcoran spent several summers living in Paleochora; a fishing village in the South West of Crete. I would visit her and we would escape the midday sun in the cool citrus groves which surrounded the house she was renting. The zesty aromas would engulfed us; ripe oranges, lemons and limes mixing with more earthy fallen fruits and herbs such as sage, rosemary and thyme. This uplifting fragrance is the perfect Mediterranean antidote to a dull Northern European day.
Grapefruit & Lime; we wanted to create a clean, simple and fresh fragrance that was instantly uplifting and can be used in any room in the house. It is perfect for neutralising cooking smells, instantly removing lingering odours such as fish. The tangy, invigorating Grapefruit and Lime are lifted by a slight fruity sweetness. When we spray it in the shop customers always emit a gasp, this is a truly distinctive and cooling fragrance, perfect also for spraying on your sheets and pillowcases on a hot summer's night.
À La Lavende; our lavender blend uses only essential oils from the finest flower crops to create a crisp lavender aroma which is instantly recognisable. Much more modern than more powdery, traditional lavenders, Mrs White's À La Lavande mixes flowers from the rolling hills of Provence, sun drenched Spain, verdant Tuscany and even home grown lavender from the Garden of England.
Cedar Closet; when I first went to stay with my friend Matthew in the Hamptons the first thing to strike me after the enormity of the guest walk-in closet was its powerful cedar aroma which would penetrate the towels bath robes. We have blended the finest cedar oils in a secret, all natural formula to recreate that wonderful, warm and woody fragrance. Cedar has the added benefit of being a strong natural moth repellent.

My big low-fat Greek salad
I first had this salad years ago in a Greek restaurant in New York. It struck me as slightly odd as I was ordering it but it was delicious and later walking the streets and seeing all the masses of chilled watermelons outside the delis it made perfect sense. This is the perfect refreshing summer dish and is ready in minutes. Apart from the feta (40% fat) and the drizzle of healthy olive oil this dish has zero fat.
Take lots of cubed chilled watermelon, add red onion and pitted Kalamata olives, crumble over some feta cheese. For extra freshness I sprinkle with fresh mint and oregano and drizzle with olive oil.
You can add cucumber but I think the watermelon is a great substitute for both the tomato and cucumber.
To pit your olives, or cherries, use one of the amazing Olive Pitters by Oxo GoodGrips.

Beurrier - French style glass butter dish
As the butter versus margarine argument continues to rage, I know what I would be rather spreading on my toast. Delicious organic butter or a synthetic spread that is apparently only one molecule away from plastic? Umm. There is the famous fly test, which I have yet to try, if any of you have please let me know. Apparently an open tub of margarine left in the garden will be completely ignored by flies! Although a low fat margarine may be better if you are watching your fat intake read very carefully the type of fats that the spread contains.
As for me there is nothing worst that waking up the the taste for a slice of delicious brown toast and finding the butter has all but gone. Glass butter dishes are the perfect solution but actually hard to come by, we sourced this dish for a French customer who was unable to find one in France. Beurriers to Bordeaux? Beats taking coals to Newcastle n'est-ce pas?

Nothing could be quicker, more simple or more delicious than this classic scallop dish. In a hot pan brown some smoky bacon until crispy, remove and set aside. In the meat juices quickly sear some fresh diver scallops until golden brown on each side.
In a blender blitz some cooked peas with a little butter.
Spoon some pea purée onto each plate top with a few scallops and crumble over some crispy bacon.
Serve with very chilled Sancerre.

10 Corso Como - the perfect gift for Fathers Day
Carla Sozzani, the former editor of Italian Vogue and Elle magazine, is the brains behind 10 Corso Como, widely recognized as the world's first concept store.10 Corso Como opened in 1990 in an old garage space tucked inside a beautiful courtyard, away from the traffic and chaos of surrounding Milan; a cultural and sensory oasis.
10 Corso Como is a fusion of a photography and art gallery, a book and music shop, a design store, a bar, a garden, a café and a restaurant.
“Corso Como 10, is a reason in itself to visit Milan"
10 Corso Como, the fragrance is equally as provocative and seductive as the store..
Top notes of rose and geranium blend with base notes of musk and sandalwood. Whilst at its heart is a woody combination of vetiver and “ood-wood”, a native of the forests of Borneo and so precious that the sap of this tree is offered to the Gods.

Best of all for festivals - state of the art folding picnic table and chairs
Gearing up for the festivals? Forget the soggy bum and the ants in the pants. Invest in Roullier White's lightweight and compact folding picnic table for four. Order today and get it tomorrow (Monday to Fridays). If you favour a more sombre affair, you are still not safe. If assembling a deck chair at Henley ends up rocking the boat. If your soggy picnic blanket has been striking a bum note at Glyndebourne. If come the National Hunt true to form, your picnic table falls at the first hurdle don’t worry Roullier White is sending in the cavalry.
Campaign furniture was first introduced in the 18th century, to provide British officers fighting campaigns abroad with some of the home comforts they would miss whilst spending months under canvas.
Applying the original principle that, for ease of transport, items should fold down as compactly as possible and applying modern technology and materials, this summer, Roullier White launches CF21; which will change the way we picnic.
Constructed from lightweight aluminium, which has been anodised to protect against corrosion, the CF21 furniture set folds-down into a case which, when opened- out, forms the tabletop. The table has four integral stools, which flip out in one sleek action.
Ideal for picnics – fitting easily into any boot - and much more stylish than horrid plastic furniture; expect to see CF21 gracing the Season’s outdoor events.
In addition CF21 is the perfect furniture for small gardens and terraces as it can be assembled in 60 seconds then stored, in pristine condition, until needed.
Opened the whole assembly measures 63x33", height 29", with the seats at 16".
Folded case measures 33x20x4",
Weight 26-lb.

Go on make his day! Father's Day made easy

By far the best way to celebrate Father’s day is with a Barbeque. It couldn’t be more perfect. The kids can help with the preparation, the big kid can do the grilling and mum can sit under a tree with a glass of Sancerre.
What is more if you plan it properly you won’t even have to do any washing up. Organic bottled St Peter's Beer, free from hangover inducing additives, will save you banging on Pete's pearly gates to be let in the morning after. Bottled beers also save on soap suds; the rinsed empties can go straight into the recycling. Serve food you can cook and eat on a wooden screwer.
A wonderful, cheap and effective way to add more patio seating is to buy a whole load of these funky bags you can find in most hardware stores and stuff them with foam rubber or those Quaver type things that flood your kitchen every time you open a mail order package. At last! A use for them! Voilà you have an instant floor cushion that wipes clean and even comes with a handy handle! I do this at home but rather than invest in foam rubber – and we reuse all our Quavers irritating our mail order customers - my friends loll around on my winter woollies! They go back under the bed afterwards. Incidentally this is a top tip if you suffer from moths the zip up bags are moth-proof especially if you include a few of Mrs White’s all natural Moth Off sachets.
If your party is going to go on past the bairns’ bedtime then you will have to think about some outdoor lighting. A simple and romantic way to cast some light on the subject is to simply save your old jam jars and string them from trees and bushes lit from votive candles
No garden party would be complete without bunting and as it is Father’s Day it is time to hang out the flags. I love vintage style bunting from The Garden Trading Company, which does a good boyish blue one.
Bangers and burgers may be the staple of most BBQs but you are better off with some thin cuts of meat which will cook all the way through. If you are doing drumsticks it is a good idea to microwave them first so they are cooked on the inside. Duck legs are delicious barbequed, especially if you marinade them over night in the fridge in orange juice and toss orange peel onto the coals.
Another absolute winner is corn on the cob grilled in its leafy husk. Soak the corn in water for a few hours, shake and place on the grill for around 10 minutes. The leaves will start to char but don’t worry inside the corn will be steaming and will be so sweet and tender you won’t need any butter. Also the husk peels back to create a convenient handle. Even less washing up!
Shucked oysters barbeque well, cook them in the half shell and throw some lemon peel on the flames.
For pudding some cubed fruit on a skewer coated with a sugary, syrupy liqueur such as Amaretto, grilled on the barbeque until they start to caramelise.
Keep bugs at bay with one of Mrs White's Wonderful Travelling Light Anti Bug Scented Candles.
The Citronella based candles are perfect for urban patios but beware if you are picnicking in the Rockies this Father's Day, Citronella attracts bears.

Mrs White's Travelling Light candle's secret blend of essential oils aids sleep, counters the effects of jet lag and allows you to wake feeling fully refreshed and restored. Contents include; Bergamot, Rose Geranium & Vetivert.
Our mother used to spray 4711 on mine and my sister’s pillows as children. On the rare occasions that we would have to stay away from home, always at our grandparents, my Granny would dab the same scent on our bedding.
Years later I mentioned this to my mum, saying it was odd that both she and her mother-in-law wore the same fragrance. “Don’t be silly dear,’ she replied, ‘Gran would never wear Eau de Cologne, we did that so you and your sister would feel at home.’
This is the premise behind Mrs White’s Travelling Light Candle, It is all you need to make you feel at home wherever you are in the world. Anxious travellers can burn it at home before a trip and create that familial feel when away from home.
