An evening with Michael Boadi of Bohdidharma

Image
Last night saw a very special night here at Roullier White as Michael Boadi, creative mind behind world renowned fragrance brands Illuminum and Boadicea the Victorious, joined us to introduce his exciting new range to our customers. Michael talked us through a selection of fragrances from his Bohdidharma collection while fielding questions from our guests about his life, career, and unique approach to perfume that has seen him create the first fragrance brand in the world entirely dedicated to the art of the tea ceremony. With Orange Pekoe martinis and free flowing fizz, the night was a resounding success, and we can't wait to welcome Michael back in the future! Take a look at some pictures from the event below:  You can find out more about Michael and the Bohdidharma collection by visiting our website, here .

Today I'm Wearing: Rose de Taif by Perris Monte Carlo

Image
Today I'm wearing Rose de Taif, an exquisite and luxurious take on a traditional rose fragrance that utilises the very best examples of the fragrant bloom. Perris Monte Carlo define themselves by giving their customers a taste of opulence; from the magnificent arabesque motif that adorns their gilded and glittering bottles, to the scents of smooth and graceful refinement that are contained within, every fibre of the house exclaims its commitment to quality.  The city of Ta'if in Saudi Arabia has been famed for its beautiful roses for centuries, and its hot summers coupled with mild winters and an elevation of up to 2000 metres above sea level all combine to offer the ideal growing conditions for the famous flower. In April, the rose fields bulge with the diminutive pink blooms that are picked as the sun rises before being distilled into wonderfully fragrant oils. The ingredient is highly prized by some of the world's most luxurious perfumers, and a note of Ta'...

Event: 26/11/2015 Michael Boadi of Bohdidharma

Image
Join us this week for an exclusive evening with Michael Boadi, the mind behind some of the greatest success stories in British fragrance. Born to Ghanaian parents in London in 1969, the fashion hair-stylist has worked with some of the world’s greatest photographers; Steven Klein, Mert Alas, Marcus Piggott, Burt Stern, Mario Testino and has styled the heads of Kate Moss, Gisele Bundchen, Jennifer Lopez, Janet Jackson, Madonna, Björk and David Beckham. It was whilst rolling with the glitterati that Boadi developed his innate love of fragrance; jet-lagged nights in distant hotels were spent mixing rare oils and exotic resins he collected en route. His first perfume house, Boadicea the Victorious, was launched in 2008 to great acclaim thanks to a blend of fine ingredients and exquisite packaging that marked the brand out as something special from the very beginning.  From this, Michael went on to establish Illuminum, most famous for providing Kate Middleton's fragra...

Supplier Spotlight: Pommade Divine

Image
In use for centuries as a natural remedy for burns, bites, scratches, scars and more, Pommade Divine was once a household name both in Britain and across the pond before its untimely demise during the 1980s. However, for all fans of natural care there's a reason to rejoice, because this famous preparation has finally been reborn, much to the delight of all devoted customers! Made from a beautiful combination of cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, and benzoin, its wonderfully warming fragrance is a comfort to the senses while the 97% natural ingredients work to soothe and calm irritated skin.  Documented evidence of Pommade Divine's use stretches back centuries, with the original compositions created by French monks in the first millennium, basing their concoction on the old Anglo-Saxon 'nine herbs charm' that called for apples, animal fats, and a mixture of fragrant oils and herbs. Many believe this numinous origin is what led to the 'Divine' moniker that has ...

Top 5: Inspiring Iris Perfumes

Image
One of the most versatile and diverse flower species in the world, the iris has lent its distinctive aroma to a huge number of scents, while the dried roots of the plant (known as 'orris') have been employed for centuries in scent going all the way back to Roman times. So varied are the colours of iris flowers that the plant itself takes its name from Irida, the Ancient Greek goddess of rainbows, who was said to travel on the celestial arc in order to bring messages from the gods to man. No wonder then that this delicate little plant has come to be so revered among fragrance fans, and these five perfumes represent some of our favourite Iris scents available right now. 1. Aedes de Venustas Iris Nazarena One of the most famous names in niche fragrance, Aedes de Venustas is the signature range of scents from the New York perfume emporium of the same name. Blending a piquant mixture of juniper berry and star anise in the top notes, Iris Nazarena is a beautiful celebratio...

Image
Olfactive Studio's collection of fragrances is one of the most diverse and unique ranges in the world of fine fragrance. Taking inspiration from the work of contemporary photographers, the resulting scents are as unique as the photographs that inspired them, with each work composed by a different nose whose personality is allowed to reveal itself through the construction. Now with their latest offering, Olfactive studio has created a scent that draws together photography and self expression via that most ubiquitous of modern preoccupations, the 'selfie'!  A Kaleidoscopic whirlwind of notes, Selfie opens with an enticing combination of warm, spicy tones, mingled with comforting resin accords and lightened with herbal angelica flower. A heart of rich maple syrup and cinnamon provides full-bodied sweetness, while a subtle patchouli/suede combination in the base provides the perfect understated finish. Write On: Eight We Rate: Fountain Pens

Image
At Roullier White we are delighted to see the welcome return of traditional old school stationery. With the increasing disregard for ephemeral emails, in business and in love if you want to stand out from the crowd send a handwritten note in black ink on crisp, white laid paper in a tissue-lined envelope.  The smell of the ink, the sound of the scratch of the nib on the textured paper, creativity flows more fluidly with a fountain pen. Here are the eight we rate. The Dialog 3 by LAMY has no cap, instead it has an ingenious twist action retracting nib. Dating back to the 1920s the PARKER Duofold is a true example of timeless iconic design. The pelican logo of PELIKAN pens is believed to be one of the oldest registered trademarks in the world, the company also introduced the transparent ink chamber, we love the distinctive, signature green barrel. The square lines of Exception by WATERMAN are a joy to behold and hold. The ATX Pure Chrome by CROSS is quite simply breathtak...

Today I'm Wearing: Habanita, by Molinard

Image
Today I'm wearing Habanita, an historic fragrance from renowned French fragrance house, Molinard. Established back in 1849, Molinard are one of the most iconic and enduring names in French perfumery, and the family run company have been producing fragrances continuously since their founding all the way up to the present day. Famously, Queen Victoria herself purchased Eau de Cologne from the company in 1891, ushering in a wealth of interest from foreign aristocracy around the continent. In 1900, Molinard established their permanent Provençal showroom in a building designed by Gustave Eiffel, who 13 years early had given France its most iconic landmark. The showroom attracted scores of wealthy English and Russian aristocrats with its collection of priceless 17th and 18th century furniture, and the name of Molinard quickly established itself as synonymous with continental elegance and luxury. Created in 1921, Habanita was originally conceived as a way to perfume cigarettes...

Cruising For A Bruising: Navy & Black

Image
Helmut Lang Matches Fashion Acne Studios Matches Fashion As a colour combination there are none more contentious than black and blue. We are not talking of the bold contrast of electric blue and black, made famous by Yves Saint Laurent in the 1970s, but the subtle muted marriage with navy. So troubling is this pairing to some that there are discussions as to whether Ian Fleming made a typo when he described his Bond hero as sporting a dark blue suit with a black knitted tie. Elegant and understated - pulled off perfectly here by Matches Fashion - black and navy is sartorially subversive enough to warrant a second look: an obvious bonus in the style stakes. Just in case there is any doubt as to your trendsetting intentions bridge the two colours with a garment or accessory that unites the two shades.   Here is the Roullier White's guide to getting it right.
